In the Indian subcontinent, one of the local cultivated flower tops of the French marigold is distilled solvent (mostly sandalwood oil) to carve “attar genda”. Attar genda is one of the most ancient perfume ingredients. Later the herb is kept at the doors as a guard from mosquitoes and flies. In African continent, this is one of the most used stuffs to control and guard from pests and bugs. In Uganda, the herb is used to combat diseases and insect. The oil is also used to treat open wounds, parasites and other things.

Tagetes contains Anthelminthic, carminative, diaphoretic, antispasmodic, bactericidal, emmenagogue, fungicidal, and stomachic properties. These active elements make Tagetes as great medical herb. Several pharmaceutical products are made by tagetes oil. Also in some places, the oil is used in making herbaceous and floral perfumes.
