Sabinene is a bicyclic monoterpene which is seen in many plants like the Norway spruce, black pepper and myristica fragrans which is an evergreen native to the Spice Islands, Moluccas. The seeds of Myristica fragrans are most important source for nutmeg in the world. Sabene exists as +(positive) and €“ (negative) enantiomers. Sabinene is a perfume additive apart from being explored as next generation aircraft fuel. It contributes to the spiciness of black pepper and is also the main component in carrot seed oil. Its presence is there in low quantity in tea tree oil also. Sabinene is extracted from plants and since the content is low in the plants it requires considerable expenditure of natural resources. Sabinene is found in the culture of andophytic Phomopsis sp. as a component of its volatile organic compound but a lot of work need to be done for microbial production method because of the low tilter in the mixture. Finding efficient and cheap carbon source for sabinene production is the key because the source of carbon is the main feedstock in most fermentation media
