The formula of terpinolene is C10H16 and it has a smokey or woody odor. Terpinolene is found in apple, cumin, lilac and tea tree. Terpinolene is also known as o-terpinene or delta terpinene. Terpinenes of all types have the same molecular formula, weight and frame work but the only difference is in the placement of carbon-carbon double bonds. Terpinolene, unlike other cannabinoids and terpenoids are not analgesic or anti-inflammatory. But it helps in fighting cancer like most other cannabinoids. It is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal also. Terpinolene is a sedative which helps in cancer treatment. It helps when the patient have difficulty sleeping because of conjunction with other terpenes or cannobinoids like linalool and cannabinol. Terpinolene is very effective natural method to repel both mosquitoes and weevils.
Good for many Health Problems
Terpinolene slows down the bacterial growth and hold back the growth of fungus. It is perfect aid for insomnia and is anti-proliferative and antioxidant. Being an antioxidant it prevent oxidation damage to other molecules in the body. Terpinolene has the power to down regulate certain cell proteins which would slow the growth of cancers and have other supportive effects on the body. Studies show that it has the power to decrease the cell proliferation of nerublastoma cells. Terpinolene in conjuction with vitamin A and E are effective for the treatment of heart disease by preventing low density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation. LDL or the bad cholesterol is the main cause for heart diseases and is the major cause of death all over the world. It has a specific gravity of0.858-0.868 and refractive index of 1.479-1.490.
Many Uses
Terpinenes are a group of isomeric hydrocarbons that are called as terpenes. Each one of these has same molecular formula and carbon framework but they have different position of carbon-carbon double bonds. α-Terpinene is extracted from cardamom and marjoram oils and many other natural sources. β-Terpinene do not have any known natural source and it is prepared synthetically from sabinene. γ-Terpinene and δ-terpinene (also known asterpinolene) are natural and sourced and isolated from a range of plants. Terpinolene is used as fragrance in cosmetic, food and cleaning products industries. Better quality terpinolene is used in the manufacture of synthetic fragrances like terpineol etc. The low concentration terpinolene are used as antiseptic and industrial solvent due to its sterilization and solvency.
